In Surah Baqarah, Verse188, our Lord commands:
And do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly or send it [in bribery] to the rulers in order that [they might aid] you [to] consume a portion of the wealth of the people in sin, while you know [it is unlawful].
We are proud residents of Aino Maina and we write on behalf of our township. This township is named after a woman who is revered for her heroic stance for upholding and honoring the law of the land. This township was designed and developed by a group of people who had noble intentions for the Aino Maina township and its residents; Intentions that included granting an opportunity for Afghans to live in an environment that mirrored the best of township living and amenities outside of Afghanistan. In other words, they strived to bring the best of the outside world to us here in Afghanistan.
Hamid Helmandi is one of the project’s founders and partners of the development company who has always had this noble intention for his fellow Afghans. He is a well-known man with a reputation for honesty, integrity and for implementing the best solutions for his people. He is a quiet and humble man who prefers to build, design and farm. He loves his God and he loves his country.
Unfortunately, a group of people consisting of Mr. Helmandi’s existing company partner and a team of corrupt accomplices (which include some members of Kandahar Chamber of Commerce, some members of Aino Maina’s self-appointed association, and a handful of staff of the company) who have embezzled from our township, stolen land from our township, laundered money from our project, and have engaged in massive fraud, corruption and gross negligence. These handful of people hijacked the project from Mr. Helmandi twice. Once in 2007 and the second time in 2018.
In November 2022, when Mr. Helmandi was finally able to come and resume his project, his company partner and his team of criminal accomplices have once again been busy conspiring to harm Mr. Helmandi and remove him from the project. All for greed, jealousy and a personal vendetta to ensure that the truth of their crimes and betrayals in this national project are not made public.
We have found Mr. Helmandi completely alone and unable to compete with this criminal group’s conspiracies and large bribery power. They have a history of giving bribes in the form of cash and land (land they have illegally taken from our township project and cash presumably from the money they embezzled between 2018-2002) in order to ensure that they have support and are not prosecuted for their crimes.
We studied Mr. Helmandi’s character and his case file carefully. Mr. Helmandi is a builder, a developer, a farmer, and a man who loves his country. He is unable to defend himself amongst wolves who pretend to be sheep. These criminals follow the law of Iblees who teaches them that if they tell a lie repeatedly and collectively as a group, and give all kinds of financial and land bribes (which they have stolen from others), then no one will take action against them.
For the past two years, we have witnessed friends, lawyers, family members and staff all warned and threatened for supporting Mr. Helmandi.
After two years of in-depth analysis and document reviews, we came to the conclusion that we will raise Mr. Helmandi’s voice. We raise Mr. Helmandi’s voice because Afghanistan needs people like Mr. Helmandi. We raise his voice because our country needs to honor and respect honest businessmen and honest business activity. We raise his voice because we want a society that encourages others to also serve, and not to steal, embezzle, and bribe.
We raise Mr. Helmandi’s voice because we want to encourage investments in our township. We want our children and grandchildren to grow up with honor and courage to serve. We want a township and country free from corruption and criminals like this criminal network that are a shame to Kandahar and to Afghanistan.
We stand for the rule of law and for upholding truth and justice in our township. We ask that you also stand with us.
